Horus develops mobile mapping hardware and software for customers all over the world. Its technology  enables sick children in hospital to attend classes at their own school through virtual reality. The company supplies multisensor software for self-driving vehicles and for the robot industry.

Joining Innovation Cluster Drachten is a logical next step for Horus to develop further as a high-tech company. Content-wise, they can develop by sharing knowledge with other companies, but membership of the cluster will also help them grow commercially. Founder and owner René Bolhuis does not believe that competitors exist. His aim is to make people believe in the things he believes in. “I only see colleagues, partners and customers. Why should you compete if you can also collaborate? That is why I think joining Innovation Cluster Drachten is such a logical step. The cluster has great companies from which we can learn a lot to further improve our products.”

Healthtech

According to Binne Visser, Chairman of Innovation Cluster Drachten, Horus is a company that is quietly working on valuable things in the background. “Nobody knows them, but they are active all over the world. They are unique in what they do. They link the latest technology with their own smart in-house developed software. What makes them extra special is that their technology provides solutions for social issues. Their healthtech technology, for instance, makes it possible for kids in hospital to go to school. This makes Horus a perfect fit for our cluster of companies.”

Proud

Kristel Rutgers, alderman of the municipality of Het Hogeland and inhabitant of Bedum, is proud of the company’s development. “I saw Horus grow from a one-person start-up into a high-tech company active on the global market. Its new location on Business Park Boterdiep contributed to this. In their building you also see wonderful spin-offs from other companies that create new jobs for highly qualified people in our municipality.”

Innovation region

Alderman Robert Bakker of the municipality of Smallingerland is happy with the expansion of the innovation cluster outside the province of Fryslân. “With Horus, Innovation Cluster Drachten does not only get a new member, it also increases the number of member companies outside Fryslân. This demonstrates what this cluster of companies is all about: an innovative partnership in and for the whole Northern Netherlands.”
